Coalition voter support collapses

It is hard to believe that the Dutton-led Coalition now faces the prospect of losing seats at the upcoming federal election.

The combination of Donald Trump’s trade war and policy own-goals like promising to ban working from home (since revoked) has sent Coalition support plummeting.

The latest YouGov poll shows that Labor now leads the Coalition 52.5% to 47.5% on a two-party preferred basis.

The result is Labor’s best in months and slightly higher than its polling of 52.1% at the 2022 election.

The Coalition’s primary vote has also fallen to 33.5%–lower than at the 2022 election.

Other polling, summarised below, tells the same story.

Primary support

Both primary and two-party support have swung sharply to Labor.

Regrettably, the Coalition’s excellent gas reservation policy and immigration cuts will not be implemented.

Australians will, therefore, suffer from higher gas and electricity prices and more immigration under a second-term Labor government.
