Victoria leads nation into homelessness

Victoria has recorded a sharp increase in applications for social housing.

In the three months to June 2024, 51,602 applications for social housing were received, up from 48,620 in the March quarter.

The jump in social housing applications comes amid new Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) data showing that Victoria has the lowest share of social housing in Australia, accounting for only 2.8% of total dwellings:
